The SEDCOR staff was deeply saddened by the news that former board member John Layton was tragically killed in a plane crash on July 4, 2015.

A longtime friend and supporter of economic development in the region, Mr. Layton was an excellent businessman and valued employer in the region. He had been President and General Manager of Layton Manufacturing, now Layton Systems, since acquiring the business in 1995. Previously he was Operations Manager and the Company Secretary/Treasurer. He majored in Business and Industrial Engineering at Oregon State University. He also served as Board Member and Past President of Simpson Federal Credit Union and was a past board Member of LinnCo Federal Credit Union.

John managed Layton Manufacturing’s transition from one of the leading suppliers of Asphalt Paving Equipment in the U.S. to one of the leading suppliers of Food Processing Material handling Equipment.

“John has been integral here, not only as a business leader and community member, but as a friend to many,” said Chad Freeman, SEDCOR president. “His thoughtful approach to collaboration, service, and running a company were hallmarks of his time with us. We will miss him greatly.”
